During the four years I was privileged to serve as Chaplain
at Evangelical Children's Home (now called Every Child's Hope), a recurring theme emerged as I came to know the children
in my care. It did not matter how young or old the child, what their particular experiences had been, or what kind of
family they were born into. The theme that wove itself into most of my interactions is a universal longing for love;
a longing for a family to love, longing for acceptance and love for themselves.
The very human yearning for
love - both to give and to receive - is woven intricately throughout my show, Love in Four Seasons. The show opens with this simple and powerful message: "I am longing to
be loved. Who will have this willing heart? I'll return love for my part; I'm longing to be loved."
Yes, the journey of this show is personal to me, and my own life's experiences of loving and being loved.
But, as I learned so profoundly in my ministry as Chaplain at ECH, this journey is not unique to me, or something we can only
understand as adults. We have all been "wonderfully made" of love and for love. It's simply a gift,
and our lives are ordered by its presence and its absence.
In gratitude for the things
I learned as Chaplain, and because I believe in the life-giving work of so many good people at ECH, I am happy to help provide
continuing funding for the Chaplaincy program through my performance of Love in Four Seasons.
